Our Story
In 2017, we started The Humble Penny to help people take control of their finances, grow their money and achieve Financial Independence.
Our audience has grown significantly and so far we’ve helped over 5 million people to improve their relationship with money.
A lot of people started contacting us for coaching and as much as we’d love to help everyone one-to-one, it just wasn’t possible.
We began to seek a solution that would use everyday technology to amplify our message and coach thousands of people directly at low cost.
This gave birth to our own membership platform, Financial Joy Academy (FJA), which we launched in February 2020.
Our mission with that platform is to help 10,000 people achieve Financial Independence by 2030 because no one should get poorer as they get older due to financial illilteracy.
Launching Financial Joy Academy has been an incredible success as we now have hundreds of members who are building wealth together each month and on their way to achieving Financial Freedom.
We’ve learned so much from starting and growing FJA that we now want to fulfil a second calling, which is to empower other people to create their own Membership Businesses.

Most people pay the cost in full, but there is an option to pay it over 3 equal instalments.
Members have received a return on investment typically in the first month of launching their membership business.
Some have even made back the full amount they invested in the first 2 weeks of launching.
Overall, we’d say assume that you’d get a full return on your investment within 6 months of launching.
In addition, we expect that you'll 10X your investment in 2 years but this will require you to work hard and keep growing your membership business.
Yes there are. The three additional costs are for your membership platform, email marketing software and branding.
These pretty affordable business expenses and are fully tax deductible expenses. Details of these will be provided on your enrollment call.
It is not ideal for you if you’re not going to allow yourself to be coachable. It is also not ideal for you if you’re doing for just money and you don’t see it as a purpose-led business. Finally, don’t join this programme if you’re not prepared to put in the work each week and trust the process.
This is a small group coaching programme over 12 weeks with hand-to-hand teaching and implementation every single week.
We'll have a cohort of up to 12 people and each one will be individually chosen after a rigorous 90-minute interview for suitability.
Each week, there is a live teach and implementations session for 2 – 3 hours at 7pm BST on Zoom.
This is then followed by 1 – 2 hours of home work, which will be reviewed during the week and on the next lesson.
In addition to weekly check-ins, we’ll also have a private community where we’ll chat weekly and have your questions answered.
Yes, you need to have some idea what type of membership niche you want to focus on.
We’ll then help you validate demand for a membership business in that niche.
Yes, around 80% of people who join the programme have full time jobs and join so that they can run their membership businesses as side hustles.
Others are self-employed or existing business owners.
Yes, you’ll be ideal for the programme if you have basic digital skills already.
E.g. Being confident in using a smartphone to create video content, for example.
Also, being able to create content on social media will be very helpful although not required.
You’ll also be using WordPress on the programme, although this is not a pre-requisite. All your training for how to build your membership website will be provided on the programme.
Show up to all 12 coaching sessions and do the home work within each week they’re set. In addition, allow yourself to be coachable and trust the process and you’ll create a money making membership business in 12 weeks.

I’m a Chartered Accountant and hold an MBA from the University of Cambridge. I hold over 14 years of experience of building and growing businesses.
